INCA TRAIL-4 DAYS 3 NIGHTS
DAY 1: CUSCO – WAYLLABAMBA
We will pick you up from the hotel very early in the morning, to be on our way to Urubamba – Ollantaytambo. The Km. 82 in the Pisacucho area is the starting point of our trail. Here we will meet our Quechua speaking carriers. After a little bit of relax time, stretching and breathing techniques you will be ready to start the 4 day walk. We will cross the river Vilcanota with beautiful views of the snow-capped mountain of La Veronica (5900m- 19000ft) and continue our walk admiring the archaeological site of Llactapata, arriving at the river Huayllabamba for lunch. After lunch, we will go on and visit the archaeological site of Patallacta. This first day we will walk around 05 hours approximately. We will set camp at Huayllabamba. After arriving on our first camp site, we recommend you take a shower to help calm any pain you may have.
DAY 2: WAYLLABAMBA – PAQAYMAYU
This will be the most demanding day of the whole trail and we will reach a considerable altitude. After breakfast our guide will give us some recommendations before we start a 03 hour trek. Along the way you can appreciate the flora and fauna.
After arriving at Llulluchapampa, the place where we will have lunch, we will continue going up until reaching the Abra de Warmiwañusqa also known as the ``woman of death``. This will be our highest point and we will cross 3 different ecological areas such as Yunga, Quechua and Puna while reaching it. After a short rest we will descend from 02 to 03 hours on our way to the second camp site, in Pacaymayu where we will spend the night surrounded by beautiful scenery of mountains.
DAY 3: PAQAYMAYU – WIÑAYWAYNA
After breakfast we will start a less demanding ascent then the day before. Our first stop will be the archaeological site of Runquraqay, were we will have a guided visit. We will continue our way up, arriving then at the archaeological site of Sayaqmarka also known as ``city of cliff``, where we can explore the Inca ruins while admiring the fabulous cloud forest. On this part we will start the third step of the Inca Trail on a long road of white granite, with some ascents and descents that go through a thickly wooded and cloudy mountain. Finally we will descend to the magnificent archaeological site of Phuyupatamarka, also known as ``cloud level town``, where lunch will be waiting for us. After lunch we will start the descent to the archaeological site of Wiñaywayna. We will have some time to relax and enjoy dinner. This will be the last time we will meet our carriers and cooks, after thanking them we will discuss our journey so far. This will also be our last night camping.
DAY 4: WIÑAYWAYNA – MACHU PICCHU – CUSCO
We will wake up very early, around 4:30 to have breakfast and start our final walk to Intipunku, the first archaeological site to visit in Machu Picchu. We will descend from cloudy forest to high jungle habitat. Very frequently we see orchids and hummingbirds along this path. We will arrive at Intipunku (``The door of sun``) to watch the sunrise in Machu Picchu from a high point. We will continue up till the royal path and finally arrive at the `` Lost City of the Incas``. We will begin our tour in this magnificent place. Built by the Inca Pachacutec, and composed by stone blocks constructed with impressive precision, Machu Picchu blends harmoniously with the mountain scenery. There are a lot of theories about the origins of Machu Picchu, but the three most popular imply it was a temple for the sun, a fortress against the inhabitants of the jungle and a sanctuary for the Incas. This fabulous city has houses, temples, storage areas, a great central square and is connected by roads and paths, surrounded by terraces on the hillside of the mountains for agricultural purposes. We will visit the Main Square, the Royal Rooms, the Temple of the three windows, the Circular Turret, the Sacred Solar Clock and the cemeteries. After a guided visit of about 02 hours and a half, you will have free time to explore and have lunch on your own. We will descend to the town of Aguas Calientes and board our train bound to the Ollantaytambo Train Station. Afterwards we will continue back to Cusco, arriving approximately at 22:00.
